"The Education Grid"

These are screenshots of the education grid that acts as a virtual platform for students and teachers.

"FINAL 5a: Greenfoot JoC #4 Finally some code!"

I used a space background with balloons

Then I added babies

This is a final project with Greenfoot software making a 2D game. It is a final exercise from the Immersive Education course that I am taking at Boston College. The course is called Discovering Computer Graphics. For details, visit the immersive BC portal at http://ImmersiveEducation.org/@/bc

"Final #4: High Resolution Avatar"

This portion allowed me to look at my avatar in different forms

I gave her a pregnant belly lol

Some cool shorts

For some reason my outfit was showing up weird

Looked at her in a 360 view

More rendering

I edited her facial features

This is a final project with MakeHuman avatar creation software. It is a final exercise from the Immersive Education course that I am taking at Boston College. The course is called Discovering Computer Graphics. For details, visit the immersive BC portal at http://ImmersiveEducation.org/@/bc

"WebGL Chrome Experiments using Google's Chrome Browser"

URBAN JUNGLE:
The first experiment I looked at was Urban Jungle, a jungle version similar to Google maps. I explored a street in New York, then I ended my journey at Boston College on Campanella Way. Here is the link: http://www.chromeexperiments.com/detail/urban-jungle/?f=

OCEAN WAVE SIMULATION:
The second experiment I looked at was an ocean wave simulation where you could change the size, frequency, and width of the ocean to simulate a gentle ocean versus a rapid moving, big waved ocean. Here is the link: http://www.chromeexperiments.com/detail/ocean-wave-simulation/?f=

STOPPING BY WOODS ON A SNOWY EVENING
This experiment was cool because it was a virtual sleigh ride on a reindeer through a 3D forest. The trip was narrated and you could get any eye view that an actual rider would get. Here is the link: http://www.chromeexperiments.com/detail/stopping-by-woods-on-a-snowy-evening/?f=

Final #2 (Six Monocular Depth Cues)

This is ATMOSPHERIC MONOCULAR CUE from Second Life, because it shows the atmosphere and we can see a better detailed flower closer to us than the ones that are further away that look just like a pool of yellow. Furthermore, the objects closer to me are more detailed than those further from me.

This is DENSITY MONOCULAR CUE from Second Life, because it shows how dense the object is that is farther compared to the one closest to me.You can see the texture of this storage barge on the left much greater than the one on the right. If you look at the storage barge's even further back they appear even more dense.

This is LIGHTING AND SHADING MONOCULAR CUE from Second Life. I thought this image was cool to use because although the gradient detail is very cool the actual shape of the object lets you see lighting at its finest. For example, the grooves closer to the ground and away from the sun light are more dark and shaded as indicated by the circles, then the grooves that are directly exposed to sun light. It does appear as if light is pouring over the object.

This is LINEAR PERSPECTIVE MONOCULAR CUE from Second Life. This is a street that has yellow lines that follow it towards its end. The lines are more defined when they are closer and then as you get to the distance the double yellow lines almost appear to converge into one line because of tricks on the eye.

This is OCCLUSION MONOCULAR CUE from Second Life. Occlusion happens when something closer to you blocks something further in the distance thus indicating not only size differences but giving that 3D affect. The fence that is outlined in pink is occluding the tree and the entire park that is behind it. We can safely assume the tree is behind the fence.

This is SIZING DIFFERENCE MONOCULAR CUE from Second Life. In the image the gas pump that is closer to me appears a tad bit larger than the one that is farther away. Although they are the same size this visual size difference gives the effect of 3D. This visual clue helps us to determine how far things are in relation to one another.

This is a FINAL project exercise using SECOND LIFE to capture images that present different monocular cues that are given to give the effect of 3D in virtual platforms . It is a final exercise from the Immersive Education course that I am taking at Boston College. The course is called Discovering Computer Graphics. Immersive Libraries and Museums

Primarily, immersive libraries and museums act to provide learning, teaching and other resources for research in a virtual space that transcends having to physically get to your local or school library to find different books, videos, etc... The coalition that is tasked with completing this project is a consortium of professors from Boston College along with other partners like the Smithsonian Latino Center. This project is intended to be useful for collaboration, cooperation and for group study.
The charter cites librarians and some of the problems they face. One of the problems primary problems is that many books and other resources are continually being put in digital form and being upgraded, so they generally look for new ways to make these resources available to a broader audience. Furthermore, the management of library materials tends to be complex and intense because you have several librarians in several different fields all trying to find ways of which to deliver the best library materials in the most efficient way, and in a way that is easy for the common person to utilize. The challenge of the cultural worker in the museum field is similar to that of the librarian as they seek to provide materials in a meaningful, accessible, and relevant way.
Some of the objectives of this initiative is to come up with a space for both client and maker with specific platform integration and reference capability. I think it is particularly beneficial that the charter includes the incorporation of best practices for the provision and assessment of library materials which obviously means that the material found in the resulting libraries will definitely be treated as something scholarly in nature. The charter also goes into detail about how the initiative hopes to promote best practices across the field including redefining how cultural materials are being represented online.
What I found interesting was that under criteria for success, some of the very things that we are doing in class is also helping the technology working group. For example, one of our final assignments is to basically develop our own library, and we are essentially helping with this groups criteria for success so that they may refer to our materials when trying to compile their libraries. I also thought it was unique in nature that the charter mentions at-risk youth and developments aimed at helping them.
